Following the launch of the Startupper of the year by Total challenge- an entrepreneurship and innovation focused competition in November 2015, Total Uganda has today awarded the top 3 winners with shs130 million at an awards gala attended by 500 guests at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Speaking at the ceremony, Total Uganda’s Managing Director- Mr Florentine de Loppinot said,

“We received over 190 entries from Uganda alone and out of these, 10 competitive participants were chosen by a jury of 10 people present here today. The 10 participants presented their projects to the jury on March 12th 2016 after a week-long boot camp at Garuga. Tonight, we honour the best of the best of Uganda’s young brilliant minds that were brave enough to share their dream with us.”

The challenge is part of Total Uganda and Total Group’s initiative to promote socioeconomic development in Uganda and on the African continent, bringing to life the brand’s thematic “energizing life”.

The top three finalists include (in no particular order); Gloria Nakyejwe Kalyango- proprietor of Eco-technologies, Arthur Woniala- founder of Khainza energy and Samuel Malinga- a consultant at Sanitation Africa.

Also present at the same event was the Total E&P’s General Manager- Mr. Adewale Fayemi who presided over the launch in November last year.

In addition to the shs130 million financial support, the winning projects will be granted the title “Startupper of the year 2016 by Total” and coaching from Total Uganda on how best they can improve their projects for better results and resource utilization among other things
