The official launch of the camp that took place yesterday morning, saw Barnes who led Liverpool attack in the successful spells in the 80’s and 90’s inspire young Uganda soccer players to become successful themselves in the future.

The program which has attracted over 480 children aged between 5-12 kicked off on Tuesday with Liverpool youth coaches Daniel Reece, Andy Nicholas and Craig Malley  joined by local Uganda coaches taking the kids through the drills. The clinic is also in conjunction with Edgar youth academy who have provided the ground-work for the success of the 3-week program.

Barnes who has been very busy ever since arriving in town was met by fans at the Vodafone kiosk at Acacia Mall after visiting the camp at Lugogo. He then went to several radio stations and TV stations to explain the Liverpool Philosophy and inspire upcoming footballers.

“The football camp and visit of John Barnes between April 30 and May 2 will provide Vodafone Uganda an opportunity to connect with its customers and share their passion and interests,” said Mr Allan Richardson, the Vodafone Uganda CEO, at the launch recently.

Today, he will be watching the Liverpool vs Swansea game at a viewer’s party live at Riders on Acacia Avenue and is expected to leave on tomorrow
