Sheilah Gashumba has been sharing her love life on social media, but her dad, Frank Gashumba, isn't exactly giving her boyfriends a thumbs up. In fact, he doesn't even consider them boyfriends!
Frank, who's a Rwandan man with strong cultural values, recently spoke to Sanyuka TV and made it clear: the only man he'll approve of for his daughter is the one who steps up and makes things official.
"Forget boyfriends," he said. "That word doesn't exist in my world! In our culture, there's no such thing as just dating. The only man a parent recognizes is the one who comes to the family and goes through the traditional ceremonies leading to marriage."
He continued, "Some of us still believe in our heritage. Until there's a proper introduction (Kukyala) or dowry negotiation (Kwanjula), or even a wedding, that guy is just someone you know, not your boyfriend, as far as I'm concerned."
