'Kadongokamu' musician and politician Mathias Walukaaga is seeking the National Unity Platform (NUP) party flag to run for Member of Parliament for Busiro East in Wakiso District.

He is contesting for the flag against the incumbent, Medard Segona, and other candidates.

Following the vetting process which took place on Monday, Walukaaga revealed that he will not contest independently if he is denied the party ticket.

He explained that running independently would mean overlooking, undermining, and violating the party's flag, something he is not ready to do.

"If I don’t secure the NUP flag, I won’t contest as an independent because I would have overlooked, undermined, and violated the party’s norms, laws, and rules,” he explained.

Mathias Walukaaga is among the few artists endorsed by Bobi Wine to run under his party, the National Unity Platform, in 2021. He is the current Mayor of Kyengera Town Council.

In the local council elections, many people who did not secure the party flag chose to contest independently, violating party laws.

They cited irregularities, selfishness, and corruption among members of the National Unity Platform's Elections Management Committee.
