For years, Frank Gashumba has been one of Bobi Wine’s most outspoken critics, often calling him out whenever the opportunity arose.

However, in a surprising turn, Gashumba has now praised the National Unity Platform (NUP) president, saying he deserves credit for serving in Parliament for only three years — unlike many political leaders in Buganda who have stayed in office for decades.

Gashumba commended Bobi Wine for setting a strong precedent when he left Parliament to pursue the presidency, describing him as a courageous leader who believed in himself when others did not.

“Whether you like Kyagulanyi or not, he set a very good precedent which many elites in Buganda failed to follow. Many of those who used to look down on him failed to believe in themselves years ago when the opportunity was there. They remained stuck in Parliament, while Kyagulanyi believed in himself, set a precedent, and left after just three years to go for the biggest office. Politically, he is far better than many of them — the likes of Segona, Mpunga, and others who failed to use their chances,” Gashumba said.

Bobi Wine joined Parliament in 2017 through a by-election in Kyadondo East Constituency, Wakiso District. He, however, resigned before completing his term to contest for the presidency in the 2021 general elections.
