Bugiri Municipality MP and long-time opposition figure Asuman Basalirwa has expressed disappointment over what he describes as Bobi Wine’s growing distance and lack of communication.

Speaking in an interview with Sanyuka Television, Basalirwa revealed that the National Unity Platform (NUP) president no longer responds to his phone calls or WhatsApp messages, a stark contrast to their earlier days during the People Power movement.

“Bobi Wine has changed,” Basalirwa lamented. “Back in the People Power days, if he had an issue with you, he would call directly. But now, he doesn’t pick up calls or respond to messages.”

Basalirwa’s remarks come just days after Bobi Wine’s campaign rally in Bugiri, where the singer-turned-politician urged voters to support only NUP candidates. During the same rally, Bobi Wine reportedly branded Basalirwa a “sell-out”, saying he doesn’t deserve another term in Parliament.

The two leaders, once strong political allies, now appear to be drifting apart — a development that has sparked conversation among opposition supporters about growing cracks within the opposition front ahead of the next general election.
