Former beauty queen Hannah Karema has dismissed allegations linking her to government funding in the ongoing guild presidential race at Makerere University.
Karema, who is contesting as an independent candidate, is facing strong competition from Gracious Kadondi, a candidate backed by the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Karema rejected claims that she is being sponsored by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“They are just afraid of my candidature. I am fully an independent candidate and not receiving any backing from government,” she said.
She added that her opponents are spreading false information out of fear of her growing support among students.
“My opponents are scared—they are spreading negatives out of fear,” she emphasized.
Despite the stiff competition, Hannah Karema remains confident that she will emerge victorious when students head to the polls next month.
