Kampala Woman MP-elect Shamim Malende has returned to Uganda ahead of the upcoming swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 16.

Malende has spent much of this year in Europe, where she said she had traveled for medical treatment following the January elections.

Her absence had sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporters and critics questioning the reason for her stay abroad. While Malende maintained that the trip was health-related, some social media users speculated that it was a personal vacation.

The legislator returned to the country on Tuesday night as preparations for the new parliamentary term continue.

Shamim Malende, who has represented Kampala as Woman Member of Parliament, previously spent extended periods abroad seeking specialized medical treatment during the outgoing term.

Her return now clears the way for her participation in the official swearing-in activities later this month.
