Police at Katwe Division have launched investigations into the death of SC Villa captain David Owori, who died after being attacked by unidentified assailants in Kampala.
Owori, 28, was reportedly assaulted on Tuesday night along Nalinya–Mpologoma Road near his residence. According to sources at SC Villa, the attackers allegedly struck him with pavers before robbing him and fleeing, leaving him unconscious.
He was rushed to a nearby clinic before being transferred to Case Clinic, where he later died from his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident, saying detectives have begun investigations while a manhunt for the suspects continues.
"We are currently hunting for the assailants and investigations have started. We are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the attack and what they could have taken from him," Owoyesigyire said.
In a statement, SC Villa described Owori as a dedicated captain and leader, mourning his death as a major loss to the club and Uganda's football community.
The club also called on security agencies to ensure those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
Owori captained SC Villa during the 2025/26 season and was regarded as one of the club's most experienced and influential players.
