Abba Marcus Mayanja, the 20-year-old son of Ugandan music star Jose Chameleone, has been released from a Minnesota jail after spending three days in custody over a domestic assault charge.
Records from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office show that Marcus was released at 12:31pm local time on August 17, 2026, following his arrest over the weekend.
The young Mayanja was facing a misdemeanour domestic assault charge involving an allegation of an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death.
Dad Reportedly Pays Shs22M
Before his release, the court had provided two options — a $6,000 bail or bond, equivalent to about Shs22.3 million, or release without payment subject to conditions.
According to Marcus, his father Jose Chameleone paid the $6,000, allowing him to secure his release.
He further claimed that the court instructed him not to post anything about the case on social media.
Marcus was released on the same day he had been scheduled to appear before court at Ridgedale at 9:30am.
Released With Conditions
Court records indicate that Marcus was granted a conditional release, although the specific conditions attached to the release were not publicly disclosed.
His release means he is no longer in custody, but the domestic assault charge against him remains pending.
The case will therefore continue through the US court system as Marcus awaits the next stage of the proceedings.
For now, the attention shifts from his arrest to the court process, with the young musician's son facing the legal consequences of the allegations against him.
