The police have in custody, Benon Matsiko, a driver who knocked a supporter of opposition leader Kiiza Besigye during one of his city processions
Matsiko’s woes trace from a video footage that leaked to the media before spreading on social media like wild fire, indicating a police van knocking man an unidentified man as he stood by the road side cheering Besigye.
In the footage, a police pick-up van driven by Matsiko knocks the victim from the road side before speeding off.
Fortunate Habyara the commandant profession standards unit of police asked the media to help and encourage the victim to come forward and give the police a statement.
“He might be worried of hearing that he will be victimized, we want to assure him that he won’t be. And whoever has any issue with unprofessional conduct of our officers, please come up to PSU and inform us, we shall not protect any of our officers” said Habyara.
A very sad Matsiko was later paraded before the media at Naguru during the police weekly press briefing which was presided over by Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the new police public relations officer.
Kaweesi replaces Fred Enanga. Kaweesi said the due process of justice has started and the force just needs to get the victim and justice will then be delivered by a competent court as the crime will be preferred.
