The Omusinga of Rwenzururu Kingdom, Charles Wesley Mumbere has been charged with murder and remanded to Luzira prison until Thursday December 13.

Shortly after 4:20pm, the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere arrived at Jinja Magistrate's court in the company of Tyson Rutambika, the Officer in Charge of Jinja Central Police Station.

He was paraded before Jinja Chief Magistrate John Francis Kaggwa who charged him with murder of police constable Godfrey Kasimba, who he allegedly killed in March.

Prosecution alleges that Charles Mumbere and others still at large while at Field Force Unit Detach in Kidodo Cell Central Division, Kasese Municipality in Kasese District, on 24th day of March 2016 murdered PC Kasimba Geoffrey No 53221.

Mumbere was arrested on Sunday from his palace in Kasese after fighting ensued between the Royal guards and security personnel. The army stormed the Omusinga's palace following coordinated attacks of security personnel in Kasese district that claimed the lives of 14 police officers. Police has stepped up security outside the magistrate's court.

Meanwhile,

Clarence Bwambale the kingdom spokesperson says they have held meetings with security and came to a resolution to stop bloodshed.

Speaking in Kasese this afternoon, Bwambale said he had spoken to the queen who assured him that the king and subjects at Nalufenya are all safe.

He added that the kingdom wants calm and peace. Warning that whoever is still confusing the public on the ground should come out and surrender.

Since the Magistrates Court has no jurisdiction to try him on this capital offence, Omusinga will not take Plea until 13/12/2016.
