A businessman in Kabale who was this week shot alongside his wife is dead. Earlier this week, we reported that Francis Baryarugamu, was shot with his wife by unknown assailants who were moving on a motorcycle.

His wife Zamu Kenkoonzi succumbed to the gunshot wounds at Mbarara hospital on Wednesday.  

Elly Maate Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson confirmed Baryagumamu death. According to Maate, the businessman died on Thursday afternoon after succumbing to deep wounds leading to loss of a lot of blood.  

Baryagumamu and Kenkoonzi were rushed to Kabale Hospital before being referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, after sustaining injuries in a gunshot attack shortly after closing their Soda Depot in Kabale Central Market on Tuesday night. 

The two, were shot by unknown gunmen who ambushed them from Mwanjari Trading Center while on their way home.

The gunmen made off with a polythene bag that Kenkoonzi was carrying thinking it had money, yet it was just water melon.  While the man was hit in the stomach and the bullet penetrated through the back, his wife was shot from the back injuring her right breast.  Maate says investigations into the matter continue.
