Tragic news shook Uganda today as Kato Lubwama, a well-known comedian, businessman, and former legislator, passed away from a sudden heart attack. The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday morning at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya.

The news of Lubwama's demise was initially shared by his business associate and renowned events promoter, Andrew Mukasa, popularly known as Bajjo. In a brief video posted on his social media platforms, Bajjo solemnly confirmed the sad news, stating, "Hon Kato Lubwama is dead. Your former MP is dead. That's what I can say for now." Shortly after, an administrator of Lubwama's official Twitter account, @Kato_Lubwama, also tweeted to confirm the comedian's untimely passing.

Shortly after the news broke, Muhammad Nsereko, the Kampala Central MP, revealed that he had received phone calls from Lubwama's family members, informing him of the devastating loss. Nsereko, a close friend of the late comedian, shared that they had spent time together earlier in the day and were scheduled to meet again, as Lubwama had something important to discuss. Deeply saddened by the news, Nsereko promptly notified the Speaker of Parliament, recognizing the significance of Lubwama's former parliamentary position.

Kato Lubwama served as a dedicated legislator during the 10th Parliament until he was defeated by Aloysius Mukasa in the 2021 general election. Notably, on June 9, 2017, Lubwama was among the distinguished recipients of medals bestowed by President Museveni during the Heroes Day celebrations held at St Augustine Catholic Parish Grounds in Zirobwe Sub County, Luweero District. The comedian-turned-politician, affiliated with the Democratic Party (DP), was honored for his remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry and his extensive career in acting and comedy.

Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Lubwama humbly acknowledged President Museveni's gesture and emphasized that the medal was a testament to his artistic contributions rather than his political involvement. He conveyed his joy, stating, "President Museveni did not give me this medal because of politics. It was in recognition of what I have contributed to this country through acting comedy."

The sudden and unexpected demise of Kato Lubwama has left a void in Uganda's entertainment and political spheres. The late comedian will be remembered for his vibrant personality, impactful comedic performances, and dedicated service as a Member of Parliament. As the nation mourns this great loss, his contributions to the cultural and political landscape will forever remain an indelible part of Uganda's history.
