The music industry continues to lose its people to politics, with the latest being Phina Mugerwa "Masanyalaze."
The musician, who has been struggling, confirmed that she will be contesting for the position of Female Workers' Member of Parliament in the 2026 general elections and is ready to represent the workers.
Phina Mugerwa, who has previously collaborated with the ruling government, has chosen to run for the position as an independent candidate.
The Secretary-General of the Uganda Musicians Association explained that her decision to enter politics is to advocate for better policies and improve the lives of workers.
"I am choosing to move to a place where the laws and policies are made," she explained. "I want to advocate in a better, more formal way and bring about the good policies we have been talking about. It's time to work in better conditions, and my vote will bring about fundamental change in the labor movement."
Phina Mugerwa says she will continue to pursue both music and politics.
"I have been advocating for these policies through music, but I have not been heard enough," she added. "I want to continue using both tools, the informal and the formal one, so I will still do music."
Phina Mugerwa also revealed that she is considering resigning from her position as a board member at the Uganda National Cultural Centre.
