Kalungu West Member of Parliament Joseph Gozanga Sewungu has launched a blistering response to Frank Gashumba, escalating a public war of words that has now spilled into the political arena.
The clash follows Gashumba’s appearance on a local radio station earlier this week, where he rallied voters in Kalungu West Constituency to vote out Sewungu. During the broadcast, Gashumba accused the legislator of being selfish, greedy, and only serving the interests of himself and a few family members rather than the wider constituency.
Sewungu has since come out swinging, dismissing Gashumba’s claims and accusing him of ulterior motives.
Speaking while defending himself, Sewungu alleged that Gashumba had for years attempted to use him as a conduit to State House and President Yoweri Museveni, efforts he says he firmly rejected.
According to Sewungu, Gashumba’s attacks stem from frustration after failing to benefit financially.
“Gashumba is jobless at the moment. He has worked for years trying to take me to President Museveni, but I refused,” Sewungu said.
The MP went further, branding Gashumba a gambler and conman who survives by attacking public figures for personal gain.
“He is a conman who is always looting people’s money for his own benefit. Now he is looking for free cash from me, but that will not happen. Let him go and work,” Sewungu added.
Sewungu also dismissed claims that he is failing his constituents, insisting that his track record speaks for itself and accusing Gashumba of political blackmail.
The legislator reportedly made additional demeaning remarks directed at Gashumba and his family—comments that have already sparked intense debate online and are expected to provoke a strong response.
Given Gashumba’s reputation as a vocal member of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and a frequent media combatant, a counterattack appears inevitable as the public feud continues to draw national attention.
