On Thursday this week, students of Makerere University went to the polls to elect their new leaders in a hotly contested race.

The election ended with National Unity Platform’s Kadondi Gracious declared Guild President after polling over 6,800 votes. Hannah Karema, a former Miss Uganda, came in second place.

Karema has since conceded defeat and says she is ready to work with the new Guild leadership to champion student welfare.

“The students have spoken, and I respect their voice. I will work with the new leadership to advocate for the needs of the students,” she said.

According to media reports, Hannah Karema is considering joining national politics in 2031 and is already setting her sights on a political position in Nakaseke District.
