Swangz Avenue boss Benon Mugumbya has spoken out about the recent controversy surrounding the departure of artiste Zafaran, now rebranded as Zafar, from the renowned Ugandan record label.
Last week, Zafar released a public statement confirming her exit from Swangz Avenue, further stirring debate after alleging that the label had confiscated her YouTube channel following the split.
The claims quickly gained traction online, sparking conversations about how Ugandan music labels handle artiste departures.
However, Mugumbya has now moved to clarify the situation. The veteran music producer explained that the separation was purely a business decision, saying the label simply chose not to continue investing in her career at this time.
He also dismissed claims that Swangz Avenue had taken over her YouTube channel, revealing that the process of handing it back is already underway.
Despite the split, Mugumbya spoke warmly about the young artiste, praising her talent and discipline while pledging to continue supporting her journey even outside the label.
His remarks suggest that although the separation has been made public, the relationship between both parties remains largely amicable as Zafar begins the next chapter of her career independently.
