Media personality Flavia Tumusiime has opened up about motherhood, saying her children are her greatest measure of success and that she no longer feels pressured to be a perfect mother.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, Flavia said she now measures good parenting by the relationship she shares with her children, including their ability to talk freely, spend time together and enjoy simple family moments.
“The evidence of my success is the fact that my kids and I sit at the same table and we talk. And I don’t feel the pressure to be a perfect mom,” she said.
Flavia explained that her understanding of motherhood has changed over time. She previously believed that being a good mother required following strict routines, staying highly organised and meeting certain expectations.
“I know that might sound like nothing to you, but there’s a moment there where talking to my kids meant templates, be organised, be routined… because these are the things that make me a good mom, a perfect mom,” she said.
However, she has since learned to appreciate a more relaxed approach to parenting, focusing on listening to her children, playing with them, joking together and sharing meals without feeling the need to get everything right.
“But now I have reduced it to the fact that I can listen to them, we can play, we can joke, we can share a meal,” she added.
Flavia is married to sports journalist Andrew Kabuura, and the couple has three sons.
