Kadogo Kamu musician, Vincent Ssegawa was on Monday remanded to Luzira Prison over a shs20m debt.
Ssegawa allegedly failed to pay back shs16m owed to him by a one John Kabanda meant for the preparation of his famous 'Ssapule Muzambulemu' concert in 2013.
Ssegawa appearing before the Mwanga II grade one magistrate, Javena Natukunda, denied all the charges brought against him.
He told the fully packed court that he never entered into an agreement with the applicant (Kabanda).
“If there is any agreement made, it was between my manager (Taddeo Kalule) and him, I do know the said agreement” Ssegawa said.
Ssegawa, who sought to be released on bail, was shocked when the magistrate set the conditions of his bail beyond his expectations.
The presiding magistrate ordered him to either pay more than half of his alleged debt or gives in his car as security to the court as an assurance that he will not abscond court which conditions were not fulfilled by him. This was after the frantic efforts by his friends to raise the money failed.
The magistrate also summoned his Kalule to appear before the court on Wednesday to explain the said agreement.
Kabanda alleges that on 27 July, 2013, during the preparations of his launch of ‘Ssapule Muzambulemu’, Ssegawa borrowed his money which he refused to pay back.
Ssegawa was arrested by court bailiffs on Friday and detained at Old Kampala police station before he was charged at Mwanga II court in Mengo.
