Musician John Blaq has opened up about his early days of pursuing music, revealing he wanted to be a vocalist before finding his true identity.

The singer, who draws inspiration from Radio, says he wanted to sing exactly like him and also admired the likes of Maro and Maurice Kiirya.

The "Makanika" hitmaker says he spent time practicing his vocal abilities, but they didn't yield much. He was even chased from a studio when he attempted to imitate Radio despite his rough voice.

He explained that it wasn't until a producer advised him to focus on his own voice for better outcomes that he registered a hit song.

"I didn't know I had a special voice until people started telling me. Actually, I personally wanted to be a vocalist; I had wanted to sing like Maro, Radio, Maurice Kiirya, and the like. However, I was advised by another producer to change the kind of music I do, and when I focused on my abilities and voice, I've never looked back," he added.

John Blaq says he remains grateful and has no regrets for choosing to focus on his vocal abilities, even though he didn't make it as a vocalist.

John Blaq remains one of the most successful musicians. He has been at the top of the game for almost ten years and has no plans of quitting.

Recently, he released a new album, which is focused not only on local audiences but the international market as a whole.
