Musician John Blaq has sent a strong warning to upcoming artists, urging them not to rush into signing contracts with record labels, despite the excitement that comes with chasing fame.
The singer, who has never officially signed with any record label, revealed that his past fallout with former management opened his eyes to how dangerous binding contracts can be for young artists.
According to John Blaq, things could have turned out much worse for him if he had signed any formal agreement with his old management team.
Speaking in an interview with a local TV station, the Ebyos hitmaker advised rising artists to take time and fully understand what they are getting into before committing their careers to labels.
“To all my fellow artists, especially those starting out, please don’t rush to sign contracts with record labels. I know there’s always excitement and love for being a star, but please be careful. If I had signed a contract with my old management, I’m sure I wouldn’t be using the name John Blaq now,” he said.
John Blaq further explained that many labels include clauses that can restrict artists from using their brand names, music rights, and even personal creative freedom.
His warning has resonated with many upcoming musicians online, with several agreeing that poor contracts have destroyed more careers than they have built.
