Singer Spyda MC has opened up about the unexpected financial reality behind his breakthrough hit “Emikisa,” revealing that despite the song's massive popularity, it did not earn him the money he had anticipated.
The song became a major hit, gaining widespread attention on TikTok and mainstream media and significantly raising Spyda MC's profile.
However, the singer says the increased visibility did not translate into the financial rewards he had hoped for.
“It widened my spaces to position myself, but I didn't get enough money. Sometimes we have expectations, but if you don't meet them, you become disappointed,” he said in an interview with a local television station.
Spyda MC explained that he had expected the song's success to create additional opportunities, particularly within the corporate world.
According to the singer, those opportunities largely failed to materialise.
“I had hoped the song would bring me different opportunities in the corporate world and more, but I never got them,” he added.
Despite the disappointment, Spyda MC said he remains focused on his career and does not intend to seek public sympathy over the financial outcome of the hit.
For him, “Emikisa” may not have delivered the money he expected, but the song still helped expand his audience and establish his name in Uganda's competitive music industry.
