Members of the Uganda Medical Association have this morning presented a petition to the speaker of parliament demanding improvement in welfare.

The group argues that improving the welfare of doctors will greatly help improve service delivery in hospitals.

Doctors under Uganda Medical association are also demanding for over time and housing allowances among others

Uganda medical association President, Dr. Fred Bisso says Uganda has lost many good doctors to other countries due to poor conditions at home.

He adds that Ugandan doctors are the worst facilitated in East Africa.

Dr. Bisso explains that their petition aims to improve the economic productivity of Ugandans by increasing the responsiveness of the health work force so that clients at health facilities receive speedy services.

“The petition also aims to improve the recruitment, retention and morale of the health workforce in the public health sector. This will assist the goal of achieving a quality workforce with the right numbers of staff, with the right skills, diversity and organized in the right way” part of the petition reads.

“We ask Ugandans from all walks of life to support our cause to improve the quantity and quality of health services in our country by facilitating health workers to perform their duty diligently, with commitment and quality.
