Police in Lwengo are investigating circumstances under which a suspected night dancer was raped by two men that are still on the run.
A 42-year-old Aisha Nalwanga, a resident of Kyazanga was found dancing naked in a graveyard on Saturday night at around 10pm at Bitooke Bisalire village in Kalagala parish in Malongo Sub-county
The duo apprehended Nalwanga for alleged trespass and later took turns to rape her forcing the night dancer to raise alarm, which attracted residents.
The rapists then fled from the scene during the confusion before angry residents descended on and started beating up Nalwanga accusing her of attempting to exhume a body from one of the graves.
Residents also claimed that unidentified people exhumed two bodies from the grave last month and they have never been traced.
Out of anger, they marched Nalwanga around the village naked prompting sympathizers to alert Katovu Police post, which swung into action and rescued her from the mob. But Nalwanga changed the statement when she arrived at the police post telling the officers that she had been raped by two unidentified men.
They recorded her statement and transferred the suspect to Katovu police station for safety.
According to Lauben Tumusiime, the Officer in Charge of Katovu Police station, investigations are ongoing. Also, Police visited Bitooke Bisalire to establish the facts on ground but found all the graves intact.
Police is now looking for the LCI Chairperson of the village who led the mob action against the female suspect. Nalwanga in her statement denied being involved in acts of night dancing, claiming that she lost the way to her grandmother's home in Bitooke Bisalire, a claim the residents dismissed.
This was supported by her brother, Sadik Kizito and sister, Sumiya Nasuuna, who said the suspect, has a mental disorder and that she had disappeared from home in the night and they tried searching for her in vain. The family had also reported the disappearance of the suspect to local authorities in Kyazanga prior until when she was discovered a mob.
