At least 16 people have been arrested for violating the guidelines on social gatherings. The suspects are being held at Mulimira police post in Bukoto, a Kampala suburb.

The arrests followed an operation led by Patrick Ndemeezi, the Officer in Charge of Mulimira police post on Wednesday night.

Ndemeezi says the suspects were found drinking in bars and that when they learnt that police was patrolling the area, they locked themselves inside bars in violation of the president’s ban on social gatherings to stop the spread of the corona virus disease.

The Mulimira Zone LC 1 Defense Secretary Muhammad Kabugo confirmed the suspects were found drinking and vowed to keep fighting such people who want to endanger the lives of other Ugandans through their reckless behavior.

According to Rashid Karakiire, one the security officers involved in the operation, people in Mulimira zone have turned a deaf ear to several warnings.
