Bugangaizi East NRM flagbearer, Onesmus Twinamatsiko, has been remanded to Kibaale Prison after allegedly slapping Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja during the party’s primary elections.
The dramatic incident reportedly took place on July 17, 2025, at the NRM party offices in Kakumiro District, shortly after the announcement of the Bugangaizi East constituency primary results. Confusion and tension had erupted when, according to witnesses, Twinamatsiko lost his temper and allegedly attacked the Prime Minister in full view of party supporters and security personnel.
Twinamatsiko, a former journalist, was arrested on Wednesday and appeared before Chief Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja at Kibaale Chief Magistrate’s Court. He was charged with assault and causing bodily harm, charges which he denied.
Despite his plea, Magistrate Namayanja ordered him remanded to prison until September 10, 2025, when his bail application will be heard.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, sparking public debate about security and discipline within party primaries.
