Former Presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye has confirmed reports that there was a plan to assassinate him on Tuesday if he tried to access Makindye court where the IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura was expected to appear to answer charges related to police brutality against Besigye’s supporters.

Speaking to journalists at his home in Kasangati this morning, said he received intelligence that Kayihura would defy court summons and not appear prior to the events.

The FDC strongman also explains that he had learnt of plans to assassinate him but he quickly says that if Kayihura had appeared in court, he too would have attended with plan B where his life was to be safe.

Besigye further showed disappointment in how individuals took up police responsibilities in a discriminative manner where the public management act wasn't ensured.

Besigye says that Kayihura knows well that if he appears before court, he seizes to be the IGP not until the case is over and he should really face the law and either apply for bail or imprisoned.

Deputy police spokesperson Pally Namaye however told us in a phone interview, that if Besigye had informed them of his plans to be at court and the threat on his life, they would have escorted him to and from court and ensured his safety.

The IGP is expected to appear before the same court on August 29th when the case will be heard.
