Rapper Keko recently returned to Uganda after living in exile in Canada. She had left the country amidst allegations of government harassment due to her being a lesbian, as same-sex relationships are illegal in Uganda and can result in severe penalties, including a death sentence.
Upon her return, Keko embarked on a media tour to revive her music career. During one interview, she was asked about the possibility of a rap battle with up-and-coming female rapper Recho Rey.
Keko mentioned that she had heard Recho Rey express interest in a music battle but doubted her ability to match her skills. Keko stated,
"I want Recho Rey to first learn how to speak English, and then she can ask for a battle. I can't battle someone who doesn't speak the language I'm most comfortable with."
