Musician and politician Buken Ali, also known as Nubian Li, has been in the industry for almost twenty years.
He was very prominent in the music business and media for over ten years when Bobi Wine, alongside Bebe Cool and Chameleone, dominated the industry.
Nubian Li, however, says things have now changed. He explained that media houses can no longer control music airplay as they used to before technological advancements.
He says that through social media, fans are the ones deciding which songs go viral and which ones top the charts.
"Technology has killed the monopoly on music distribution. The fans are the ones who decide what song goes viral or tops the charts, not media houses," he explained.
Nubian Li's observation is very evident in the way social media, particularly TikTok, has created various hit songs. Television and radio are now playing songs in relation to what is trending on TikTok.
