The political season is here, and different people are already expressing their interest in running for various offices.

Musicians are not missing out on the election season either, and many have already announced their political bids.

Among them is band musician Stecia Mayanja, who has confirmed her candidacy for the position of Kampala District Woman Member of Parliament.

Mayanja explained she is focused on representing Kampala women in Parliament next year and believes she will win the elections in January.

"I am confirming to you that I am running for Woman MP Kampala. I am asking for your mandate. Some people think I am joking, but I am very serious about it. Next year I expect to be in Parliament," she explained while addressing a gathering at the National Theatre.

Stecia Mayanja says she is not running under any political party and will stand independently for the position, despite ties to the National Resistance Movement.

Stecia Mayanja returned to the country last year after an unsuccessful "Kyeyo" (migrant worker) experience in Canada. Reports indicated she was deported after failing to secure citizenship.

Earlier this month, the singer held a successful concert at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

Other artists contesting for political offices include Tuff B, Nina Roz, Big Eye, and Eddy Yawe, among others.
