Last week, seasoned politician Medard Lubega Sseggona lost the NUP party flag for Busiro East Constituency to Kadongo Kamu musician Mathias Walukaaga.
Unhappy with the party’s decision, Segona announced that he will contest as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.
However, his move has drawn widespread criticism from political observers and the public, many of whom believe he stands little chance of reclaiming his seat. Some have advised him to step away from politics and focus on his legal career instead.
Outspoken media critic Frank Gashumba has also joined the conversation, saying Segona is headed for defeat in the upcoming elections.
“I am very lucky because I live among different people. I understand that Medard Segona can never win this election against Walukaaga. He should step aside and focus on other things because he won’t make it back to Parliament,” Gashumba said.
According to Gashumba, Segona has lost significant support on the ground, giving Walukaaga a clear advantage in the 2026 race.
