Singer-turned-politician Bobi Wine has urged young people in Soroti, especially political foot soldiers aligned to the National Unity Platform (NUP), to embrace sobriety and safeguard their future.
While addressing NUP supporters during a mobilisation engagement, Bobi Wine cautioned the youth against drug abuse, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption, stressing that discipline is key to personal growth and political effectiveness.
“I discourage you from smoking; stay away from alcohol. A sober mind is a very important resource,” Bobi Wine told the gathering.
Message of Discipline and Purpose
The NUP leader emphasised that many young people involved in political mobilisation risk destroying their futures through harmful habits, despite having the energy and potential to build meaningful lives.
He encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, and mentally sharp, noting that political activism should not come at the cost of health, education, or long-term opportunities.
Drawing From His Own Journey
Bobi Wine, who rose from humble beginnings in the ghetto to become an international music icon and prominent political figure, often uses his personal story to inspire Uganda’s youth.
He reminded supporters that success requires clarity of mind, resilience, and self-control, values he credits for his own transformation.
Youth at the Centre of His Message
His call for sobriety forms part of his broader message advocating for self-empowerment, responsibility, and sustainable livelihoods among young Ugandans, particularly those actively involved in politics.
Bobi Wine remains one of the few public figures who consistently engages young people with messages that extend beyond politics, focusing on life skills and long-term personal development.
