Pressure is mounting on Nelly Witta, husband to Ugandan singer Vinka, to step away from active politics following yet another painful loss in the Isingiro East MP race.
Witta, who has now lost elections in consecutive election cycles, once again failed to secure a parliamentary seat after contesting as an independent candidate, having earlier lost the NRM party ticket during primaries.
Despite heavy investment and high expectations, Witta was defeated by the NRM flag bearer, extending his losing streak and raising serious concerns within his family circle.
Sources close to the family reveal that relatives have since advised him to abandon politics altogether and instead focus on his personal businesses, arguing that politics has brought more losses than gains.
“Vinka’s husband is viewed as unlucky in politics. The family feels he has tried enough and wants him to concentrate on his businesses and leave politics,” a source told this website.
It is further alleged that Nelly Witta spent over UGX 1 billion during the campaign period — a massive financial commitment that reportedly did not sit well with family members, especially after failing to yield the desired outcome.
With back-to-back defeats and growing family pressure, it remains to be seen whether Witta will heed the advice and exit the political scene, or attempt yet another comeback in the future.
