Singer Cinderella Sanyu, popularly known as Cindy, says pride is one of the biggest reasons many musicians struggle to sustain long-term success.
Speaking during an interview, Cindy said many artists begin their careers with humility, respect and a positive attitude, qualities that help them build strong relationships with fans and industry stakeholders.
"As an artist is starting, there's that humility they come with and they are polite, nice and humble," she said.
According to the singer, the challenge often begins after artists achieve their first major breakthrough, when fame and success change their attitude toward others.
"They suddenly begin to feel untouchable and with no need to be nice to people anymore. Pride comes first, then bad manners, familiarity and disrespect joins in," she added.
Cindy said many artists only realize the importance of humility after their careers begin to decline, forcing them to reflect on what made them popular in the first place.
"They remember the small things that people loved about them and begin doing them. That's when they slowly rise up again," she said.
Her remarks add to the ongoing conversation about the personal and professional qualities required to build a lasting career in Uganda's music industry.
