Media personality Mildred Tuhaise has opened up about her decision to stay away from Ugandan politics, saying her experience covering elections as a journalist has made her wary of joining the political arena.
Tuhaise was addressing a campaign poster that circulated during the 2021/2026 election period, suggesting that she was contesting for the Masindi District Woman MP seat.
The former NTV journalist clarified that the poster was not official and had been created by enthusiastic supporters without her involvement.
According to Tuhaise, her reluctance to enter politics is largely influenced by what she has witnessed while covering elections in Uganda.
“I fear Ugandan elections, mainly because I have covered elections before and I know what happens. I don't want to get into that mess,” she said.
Tuhaise went on to compare Ugandan elections to gambling, arguing that candidates can spend enormous amounts of money without any guarantee of victory.
“Ugandan elections are like a lottery or gambling. I will say it plainly, it's pure zaala. You spend a lot of money, yet you are never sure whether you will win. Even when you are confident, the results can still be altered,” she added.
She said that for now, she would rather concentrate on her personal businesses and agriculture than pursue elective politics.
Despite the speculation that has previously linked her to political office, Tuhaise maintains that she currently has no plans to contest for any position.
