Abba Marcus Mayanja, the eldest son of Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, has been arrested in the United States over an alleged domestic assault incident.
According to reports, Abba Marcus was booked by the Edina Police Department on August 14 and is being held at a Minneapolis-area facility on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
The charge reportedly relates to an allegation that he committed an act intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm. He is reportedly being held without bail, with his next court appearance scheduled for August 17 at Ridgedale.
Abba, 20, was reportedly reported to authorities by his pregnant girlfriend. His booking photographs have since circulated widely online.
There have also been claims that, depending on the outcome of the case and his immigration status, the matter could potentially expose him to immigration consequences, including deportation. However, such an outcome would depend on the legal proceedings and applicable US immigration laws.
Diplomatic commentator Mathias Semanda has meanwhile urged Chameleone to consider bringing his son back to Uganda, warning that the situation could become more serious.
"If Jose Chameleone wants to save his son, he should get him on the next available flight to Uganda. A U.S. mugshot at 20 years? This pattern ends in either a life sentence or a fatal encounter with law enforcement," Semanda warned.
The allegations against Abba Marcus remain subject to the ongoing legal process, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
