Police in Kibuli are questioning a woman in connection with the death of Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu, who died on Thursday morning, September 24, 2026.
According to an eyewitness account cited by NTV, Matovu had parked by the roadside in Kibuli and was escorting a female acquaintance, Rose Tumusime, to her rental when they were reportedly confronted by a man said to be her boyfriend.
A scuffle allegedly followed, during which Matovu was reportedly punched and collapsed.
He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police detectives have since taken the woman in for questioning to assist with investigations, while the male suspect reportedly fled the scene and is being sought by police.
The account differs from earlier reports that Matovu had been attacked and killed by thugs.
Police have not yet issued an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death or whether any charges have been filed.
Matovu, 77, was one of Uganda’s most celebrated live-band musicians and the founder of the Afrigo Band, which has been active for about five decades.
