Renowned TikToker and influencer Zayra Baby has revealed why she cut ties with an unnamed Ugandan artiste, accusing them of underpaying her and failing to honour promises to clear the balance.
Zayra said she has worked with several Ugandan artistes but recalled one particular experience that left her disappointed after she agreed to help an artiste she had become close to.
At the time, Zayra was in Form Six and had mock examinations the following day. Despite this, she said she worked on the artiste’s project from 6am until midnight.
“I have worked with a lot of artistes, and it doesn’t go as expected. This person befriended me, and I worked, thinking I was working with my friend. We worked from 6am, did a lot of things,” she said.
After completing the work, Zayra said she asked for her payment but was shocked to find that the artiste could not afford even a quarter of her rate card.
“I was in Form Six, and after working, at around midnight, I asked if I could leave because I had MOCK exams the next day. I asked for my money, and they didn’t even have a quarter of it. They promised to pay more afterward, but they have never paid,” she added.
According to Zayra, the artiste later approached her again and asked her to work on another music-related project despite the outstanding payment.
She said the experience prompted her to end communication with the artiste, whom she accused of failing to keep their word.
“I was really surprised that the same person even returned later and asked me to work on another challenge for their music. I don’t talk to them anymore because I love people who respect their word,” she said.
