Nita Katushabe is a Ugandan singer-songwriter whose music blends soulful
storytelling with emotional depth and lyrical intention. Writing in English, Luganda,
and Runyankore, she explores love, vulnerability, growth, and the tension between
ambition and intimacy — creating songs for the moments people don’t always know
how to express. With a foundation in classical voice training, she brings warmth and
control to a sound rooted in connection.
Her early influences were shaped by strong melodic writers and vocalists whose
music carried both technical excellence and emotional honesty. Over time, her
artistic sensibility has drawn inspiration from contemporary singer-songwriters such
as Emeli Sandé, John Legend, and Alicia Keys — artists known not only for their
voices, but for their songwriting craft and authenticity.
Before pursuing music full-time, Nita spent nearly a decade building a career in the
corporate world, working in product management within Uganda’s
telecommunications industry. While music had always been an important part of her
life, she eventually made the deliberate decision to step away from her corporate
career and give herself the space to build a life around songwriting and performance.
The transition marked a defining chapter in her creative evolution — one that
continues to shape the stories she tells through her music.
Her foray into contemporary music as a solo artist culminated in her debut EP, Love
Hustle, a deeply personal body of work exploring the balance between chasing
dreams and holding on to love. The project established her as a thoughtful
songwriter with a warm, expressive voice and a clear artistic identity. Her latest
single, Maybe This Time, continues this journey, exploring the uncertainty and hope
that can come with giving love another chance.
As she continues to evolve, Nita is building a growing catalogue of music while
developing an intimate live experience through her performances and the Nita
Katushabe Unplugged Series. With each release and performance, she remains
anchored in honest storytelling, emotional connection, and a commitment to creating
music with substance and intention.
