Pine car bond owner, and murder suspect Mohammed Ssebuwufu’s Bail application before the High Court has been denied.
The High Court Judge Wilson Masalu Musene dismissed Ssebuwufu’s application this morning due to the gravity of the case against the accused.
The business man who is facing murder charges over the death of a one Donah Katushabe, had applied for bail on medical grounds arguing that he was suffering from hypertension and that he has dependents whose lives are messed up by his continued incarceration.
He had also presented a title for a house worth 560 million Shillings confirming that he owns a permanent place of abode from where he can be tracked.
Even after presenting his uncle Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte and the Presidential Advisor on Media Affairs Joseph Tamale Mirundi before court as his sureties, Ssebuwufu could not convince the no nonsense justice Musene.
Justice Musene argued that the gravity of the matter attracts a defence sentence upon conviction, adding that it would be unfair to release Ssebuwufu on bail and leave his four co-accused Paul Tasingika, Godfrey Kayiza, Phillip Mirambe and Stephen Lwanga
On Remand.
Prosecution alleges that Ssebuwufu and his co-accused persons tortured a one Dona Katushabe to death accusing her of failing to clear a 9 million Shillings debt which was balance for a car she bought from Pine, Ssebuwufu's car bond in Kampala.
It is reported that the killes used sticks and a panga to beat and slice Katushabe to death.
Justice Musene has now directed the deputy registrar of court Eleanor Khainza to fix the case for hearing in the next criminal session that takes effect next month.
