There is no way you can mention East African music without mentioning Jose Chameleone’s name. He is considered by many as a legend. He singlehandedly chased Congolese music from Uganda, paving away for other musicians.
But legendary musician Maddox Sematimba is not convinced that Chameleone is worthy to be called a legend.
He believes Chameleone is a great musician who has contributed to the development of the music industry, but he has a long way to go to deserve the crown.
“You should stop misusing the word legend and superstar. One is called a legend basing on what he’s done. I classify Chameleone as a veteran musician who has helped other artists to climb the ladder but he’s far from being a legend,” Maddox said in an interview.
He went to say, "I could be wrong but I believe he is not yet there. Chameleone has good music but he has to compose more classic songs to be regarded as a legend".
He noted that Chameleone has released a lot of good music but according to him, it will not live on when Chameleone leaves the industry.
He has to compose more lifetime songs.
It should be noted that a year ago, veteran comedian Andrew Benon Kibuuka trashed Chameleone and Maddox’s legendary status. He claimed both are regular musicians.
