Musician Pius Mayanja, also known as Pallaso, has for a long time called out Ugandan promoters over the exploitation of artistes.
Pallaso explained that many of the promoters hate him because he opened the eyes of the artistes when he increased his rate card to ten million Uganda shillings for a performance.
"Some promoters are simply exploitative. Most promoters simply hate me because I opened the eyes of other artistes. I raised the bar high when I increased my rates," he explained in an interview with a local television station.
Pallaso specifically mentions Abitex as the most exploitative promoter and inconsiderate to artistes.
Pallaso explained that Abitex is very selfish; he offers little money to artistes but then fails to pay even after performances.
"Someone like Abitex is very exploitative. He is very selfish; he has booked me for three performances and hasn't even paid once. He offers the smallest amount of money and still fails to meet his promises," he added.
Pallaso, however, urges both artistes and promoters to respect the music business for mutual benefit and the development of the industry.
