Kadongo Kamu musician Daudi Mugema has this morning been announced dead in a hotel room in Gulu city, northern Uganda.
It's alleged the musician had traveled to seek financial assistance from Gen. Salim Saleh, the Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation.
According to local reports, Daudi Mugema was found unresponsive in his hotel room; however, the exact cause of his death has not been made available at this time.
Daudi Mugema has spent most of his last years on earth in and out of the hospital. He has been suffering from a severe health condition that caused swelling in his limbs and was linked to cancer.
In 2024, Mugema sought medical treatment in Turkey, where initial suspicions of cancer were ruled out after extensive tests at three hospitals in Istanbul failed to pinpoint the exact cause of his illness.
Upon Mugema's return from Turkey, he significantly improved, and earlier this year he announced he could walk unaided.
The singer credited his recovery to the financial support of well-wishers, including Gen. Salim Saleh, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, and musicians like Mesach Semakula, Eddy Kenzo, and David Lutalo, among others.
At the time of his death, Daudi Mugema was never in good standing with fellow Kadongo Kamu artiste Mathias Walukaaga. Mugema accused Walukaaga of bewitching him over material things.
"I was bewitched by Mathias Walukaaga, and he is the reason I have suffered for all these years. He wants me dead and doesn't wish others well. He bewitched Vincent Segawa to the extent that he quit music," Daudi Mugema explained during an interview with a local television in April this year.
Authorities continue with investigations to determine the exact cause of death of Daudi Mugema, but local reports suggest he had traveled to seek financial help from General Salim Saleh as his health had deteriorated in recent days.
