Over the weekend, Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Shamim Malende, went public about her relationship with Andrew Sebunya, revealing that it is no more.
She explained that the two are no longer in a relationship and claimed Sebunya confiscated some of her property, including cars and social media pages.
"I ended my relationship with Andrew Sebunya. I have spent years trying to empower that man. I trusted him with everything, but he is paying me back harshly. I regret having introduced him to people; he confiscated my social media platforms and vehicles, and he is threatening to end my life," she explained.
In an interview, Andrew Sebunya denied having confiscated Shamim Malende's property and revealed she is seeking public sympathy ahead of elections.
"Everything in my possession is rightfully mine. I have all the receipts to prove it. Shamim Malende is lying to everyone, claiming I have her property. Everything you see me with belongs to me. She’s just trying to gain attention ahead of the upcoming elections,” he explained.
Now, reports have emerged indicating the cause of the split between the two. It's alleged that Shamim Malende's family are the source of the trouble and demanded their daughter drop Andrew Sebunya for "better people."
It's alleged that while Shamim Malende was in her hospital bed, Sebunya was in control of the finances. He never cared about Malende's family and spent cash on personal expenses.
It's alleged a fight broke out while in Nairobi between Shamim Malende's mother and Sebunya. The mother demanded to know the cash expenditure and wanted to be in charge of finances, something Sebunya protested.
"It's a tough thing, and Sebunya will have to give up. Malende's family is bitter with him about how he managed the finances while their daughter was on her sickbed. They forced her out of the relationship, and they are very bitter with Andrew Sebunya," a source told this website.
It's alleged Sebunya has always been looked down upon by Malende's family. They believe he is of a very low profile compared to their daughter.
Other sources reveal Andrew Sebunya's Christian background has also affected his relationship with Malende. Malende's family, who are longtime Islamists, believe Sebunya just changed religion to benefit from their daughter's resources but didn't do so genuinely.
