Award-winning musician Diamond Platnumz has landed himself in hot water after expressing support for Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, a move that has angered a section of citizens across the country.
Earlier this week, the Wasafi Records boss shared a video on his social media urging Tanzanians to work harder instead of blaming President Samia for the country’s economic hardships.
However, many citizens interpreted his message as mockery and insensitivity, especially at a time when the nation is grappling with post-election unrest.
Furious fans have since demanded a public apology and ordered Diamond to delete all posts in support of President Samia — threatening to demolish his mansion and Wasafi studios if he fails to comply.
While the singer has since deleted the controversial content, he is yet to issue the public apology demanded by angry citizens.
Tension remains high in Tanzania following last week’s presidential elections, with protests erupting in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and other towns, as citizens decry alleged electoral malpractice, economic hardship, and political injustice.
