The Electoral Commission, led by Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama, has officially disqualified Mathias Walukaaga from the Busiro East parliamentary race over failure to meet the required academic qualifications.

Walukaaga, who also serves as Kyengera Municipality Mayor, was removed from the race after the Commission ruled that the Mature Age Entry certificate he presented had expired by the time of nomination.

But the singer-turned-politician insists he will not bow out. He has vowed to challenge the decision in the High Court, backed by his party, the National Unity Platform (NUP).

Speaking to local television, Walukaaga accused his rival Medard Lubega Sseggona of bribing EC officials to secure his disqualification.

"I have not given up. I am going to court to appeal the Electoral Commission’s decision. I have the backing of the party and the people of Busiro East. Segona threw millions at EC officials to get that verdict, but I won’t give up," Walukaaga said.

With Walukaaga out of the race, Segona—running as an independent—now gains a significant advantage. However, he still faces competition from Emmanuel Matovu Magoola and NRM’s Abdul Kiyimba.
