The current Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has made it clear that she has no intentions of running for President of Uganda.
Addressing a gathering in Kampala on Monday, Among stated that she has already achieved a lot in her political career and is considering stepping away from active politics in 2031.
She emphasized that she has no presidential ambitions and dismissed claims suggesting otherwise.
“I want to make it very clear today. I have heard people saying that I want to stand for president in 2031 — that is nonsense. I want to tell Ugandans that even where I am today, I have overachieved, and I will be quitting active politics in 2031,” she said.
Among added that when she retires from active politics, she will support President Yoweri Museveni or any candidate he endorses.
Currently, Anita Among is expected to face political competition from Norbert Mao over the Speakership in the next Parliament.
