Veteran Kadongo Kamu singer Abdul Mulaasi, also known as Abdul Ssemwogerere, is celebrating a proud milestone after his daughter, Shanita Semwogerere, graduated with a degree in Nursing from St. Francis School of Health Sciences in Mukono.
While celebrating the achievement, Mulaasi called upon fellow artists, especially musicians, to prioritize education and invest in their children's future, noting that an educated child can become a source of pride and support for the family.
“I appeal to fellow artists, especially musicians, to invest in education and ensure that their children go to school. Education can be helpful to families in the future. Parents should prioritize school fees and their children’s education rather than spending money on luxuries. The money invested in education can transform an entire family,” Mulaasi said.
The singer revealed that Shanita’s graduation fulfilled a long-time dream for the family, achieved despite numerous financial challenges along the way.
He praised his daughter for remaining disciplined and committed to her studies, revealing that although her initial dream was to study journalism and become a television presenter, he and her mother, Bella Kamwenzi, guided her toward a health-related profession.
“I appreciate my daughter Shanita for being disciplined and committed to her education. Her dream was journalism, but we encouraged her to pursue nursing because we believed it would give her a stable future and opportunities to establish her own medical business. She accepted our advice and worked hard to achieve her goal,” he explained.
Mulaasi also commended Shanita’s mother, Bella Kamwenzi, for her dedication and contribution towards raising and supporting their daughter.
“I want to appreciate Bella because she raised Shanita well and took great responsibility for her welfare. There were moments when I was unable to provide what was needed, and she stepped in and supported our daughter tirelessly,” he added.
The singer further encouraged mothers to contribute to their children's welfare and education whenever they have the ability, rather than waiting entirely for fathers to provide school fees.
According to Mulaasi, financial challenges can affect any parent, and cooperation between both parents is key to ensuring children complete their studies successfully.
Shanita also expressed gratitude to her parents, describing them as loving and supportive throughout her educational journey.
“My father is a responsible parent who always played his role. Even when he did not have enough money, he remained present and supportive. My mother is a strong woman who helped me overcome every challenge I faced. I had parents who loved, protected, and supported me throughout my studies,” Shanita said.
Her graduation marks a proud moment for the family and a testament to the value of perseverance, parental support, and investment in education.
