Celebrated drama director John Segawa has made a startling confession about his past, revealing that he once acted as a pimp during his time in Uganda's entertainment industry.
Segawa made the admission while discussing his upcoming stage production, Irreversible Regret, which he says is intended to expose the hidden dangers, moral challenges and dark realities often concealed behind the glamour of show business.
According to the celebrated dramatist, many young people are drawn into the entertainment industry without understanding what goes on behind the scenes.
“I myself was a pimp selling girls. It's very absurd. But I have a show I'm working on called Irreversible Regret. I want to expose the ills in the entertainment industry that we, the stars, hide from our fans,” Segawa said.
Inspired by Suzan Kigula's Story
Segawa revealed that the play draws inspiration from the life of actress Suzan Kigula, whom he described as one of the founding members of Diamond Ensemble.
He said her journey from fame to personal struggles reflects some of the challenges that people in the entertainment industry can face.
A Warning to Young Entertainers
According to Segawa, Irreversible Regret is designed to educate aspiring entertainers about the risks associated with pursuing fame.
He hopes the production will encourage young people to make informed decisions before joining the entertainment industry and spark honest conversations about issues that are often kept out of the public
